This last weekend our little family of three got to spend a few days enjoying the wonderfulness that is Door County, Wisconsin. If you don't know where that is just hold your left hand out in front of you, palm facing forward in a "Stop, hey what's that sound?" formation... it looks like Wisconsin, no? K so your thumb... the one that is currently poking out into Lake Michigan... that's Door County. And since it is poking out into the great lake it's practically littered with little "coastal" towns that are filled with adorable, delicious, and fun touristy things as well as some awesome county and state parks. The state park that we stayed in was Potawatomi State Park, just up the water from Sturgeon Bay. And let me tell you... this place was perfect! We seem to luck out each year with these little campsites. We always (knock on wood) get a great little spot on the bend with plenty of space for adventuring. We loved it!
Our journey began Thursday afternoon. After a nap and some yummy lunch we packed up and headed northeast for a weekend of fun.
Of course we had to bring a wheel barrow full of cars for Peter to play with... this kid is obsessed. And it's so cute.
Upon arrival we got things set up and started dinner in the dutch oven. Which took three hours. Is there some trick to dutch ovening that we are missing? Please someone enlighten us... because I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to take that long.
One of our first adventures in the park took place on Friday morning, we biked up the bluff to the observation tower and climbed our way to the very top. And we didn't fall off even though one of us made their mother very nervous.

After our bike ride we headed up the thumb a bit to pick up some cherry pie filling at Grandma Tommy's (just do it... trust me) and to check out Cave Point County Park as well as Whitefish Sand Dunes State Park.
Cave Point County Park had a fun rocky beach that was great for climbing around and exploring.
Peter thought it was pretty funny to splash around in the little "tide pools" in his sneakers... I don't think they've dried out yet.
Todd got to this point ^^ and had to turn around to unload his pockets. Not sure if he lacked confidence in his ability to not fall in the lake or what...
... but he made it over. (:
Whitefish Sand Dunes State Park was also a fun beach but for it's awesome sand. It took Peter a while to catch on to the whole playing-at-the-beach thing. He kept trying to run away because he's a stinker and loves to be chased. Finally once Todd showed him the ropes of filling the bucket with sand and splashing in the water he had the time of his life!
He had so much fun that he let one of the little waves take him out... further soaking his clothes. Definitely should have busted out the swim gear first thing.

Peter would have stayed and played in the sand all day. Like seriously he probably would have fallen asleep on the beach for a couple hours then woken up and kept playing. The kid is a machine.
That night we got to watch fireworks from across the bay. Peter wasn't a fan of the close up sparklers but he was pretty impressed with the big fireworks. This was his first 4th being awake for them so it fun watching him have that first experience.
There's nothing quite like watching fireworks and hearing the National Anthem at the same time... gives me little goosebumps without fail.
Next stop: Peninsula State Park!
So beautiful!!! I don't know how I never went when I lived there! I think it's awesome you take your little guy camping all the time, those are the best memories!
