some news to share: part IV

Yes, you interpreted that photo correctly. We are indeed having another child. Another little adorable donut hole. We're fryin' up another one. Our take on "bun in the oven" if you will.

Honestly, I still can't believe it. I mean I can believe it considering my pants are starting to be quite snug and those first twelve weeks of gross-ness were well... gross. But like what in the world!? We're having another baby! We still call Calvin a baby! We're going to have THREE CHILDREN. That's more than there is us. They are going to out number us and take over the house. But I guess we're going to have to be okay with that... I mean there's no turning back now haha.

I got to see baby's profile today and let me just say that we make some super cute noses. Everything else looked healthy too so that's good. (:

So yeah... here we are. A third of the way in already and pretty excited to be here. Only ("only" ha!) 26 more weeks!

I better go eat one of those donuts... ya know to keep things looking healthy for the babe. Wouldn't want to deprive the poor thing.

a trip to Atlanta

Our trip to Atlanta has a bit of a back story. Kinda. I mean I could just tell you about the trip, add one (or ten) too many pictures, and it'd make perfect sense. But... the backstory is fun. It all started years ago in the beginnings of the century...

It's 2007 (I'm pretty sure) and Todd's older brother, Keith, has returned from his mission and made his way back to BYU. Todd is currently on his mission and won't get back for a year-ish. Keith moved into an apartment at Campus Plaza, that place above what is now Craig's Cuts and Slab. I don't remember what used to be down there but nowadays that's usually how we describe the superduper place that is Campus Plaza to Provo dwellers. So yeah Keith lived there and so did a girl named Autumn. They became friends, they gave each other dating advice, they sat on Berk and ate cake together deep into the night. Autumn even accompanied Keith and his almost fiance when he introduced her to his family. Basically Autumn became a part of the family. I'm pretty sure my mother-in-law hoped that Autumn would marry one of her four sons. Anyhow. Keith did indeed marry said almost fiance, Courtney, and they moved across (in the middle of, really) the parking lot. Autumn stayed in the ward and I moved in spring of 2009. I got to know her and Keith and their friend group and a few months later Todd moved into the ward. Fast forward a couple of semesters and Todd and I are basically dating and Autumn has also met a nice young man. We all eventually got engaged to our chosen sweethearts and she got married a semester ahead of us... then she lived with me! Haha gotcha there! Really though, her and Devin got married then he had a crazy internship and she had to finish school so she moved in with me! It was great!

So yeah that's the back story... these guys aren't just "college friends." They're like family. Is that tacky? It's basically true.

Autumn and Devin have been living in Atlanta for the last few years. We never had plans to visit them while we were in Utah but once we found ourselves down the road in Savannah we knew it had to happen. Fortunately we caught them before they left on their summer adventures and we had a grand old time catching up and eating awesome food. A simple equation that always = a good time.

Of course on the way we had to stop for some bacon barbeque in Macon! (ahhh I crack myself up)

Like I said... we ate good food. This Jerusalem bakery was one of them and wow... not only was it delicious, it was beautiful. I know this picture doesn't do it justice but trust me, my little wanderlusting-wannabe-heart was going crazy.

We also made it to the Georgia Aquarium... the biggest in the world!

I mean heck, they had a HUGE tank with multiple manta rays and whale sharks. It was incredible.

Another fun eatery was Marietta Diner. Featured on Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives... this place has everything. Seriously you can order anything at any time of day. We had a late evening and didn't eat dinner until about 10pm and I coulda ordered cold cereal if I wanted.

I should also mention how much I love Autumn and Devin's home. It was so welcoming and I love the way Autumn has personalized each room.

Monday morning we had breakfast at a French bakery. Again, wow.

And Marietta Square... a very charming little place.

Our visit ended with the Giants losing to the Braves. An embarrassment really... I mean the Braves are so bad this year. But hey we all have our can't-hit-a-stinkin'-ball days.

I should also mention that is was 90 piping degrees. Wheww! The boys did incredibly well though as long as we kept the snacks and water coming.

Thee burger of the stadium. They used to only sell a couple dozen starting at 10pm... now you can order a couple dozen for yourself if you'd like. You won't need to though. They've got two patties and a really really good bun that'll fill you up. Not to mention their fries with homemade ketsup. 'Nough said, guys.

Thanks for the extra fun weekend!

Our Mexico adventure: Hotel Zone, Cancun

Our little Mexico adventure ended back in Cancun in the Hotel Zone. We checked in pretty late the night before so the next morning we were invited got suckered into going on a tour of the hotel for free massage vouchers. Worth it? Yes.

It was fun chatting with the different tour ladies and we got to see some of the nicer parts of the hotel.

Our tour guide took us out to the water to teach us about the sand (haha) and up to one of the fancy rooms.

The view when you have the monies ^^^. The view when you don't vvv.

We actually really liked our room. They gave us a california king when we paid for a double so that was cool. The boys would have loved to wrestle and jump on such a huge bed. I found myself thinking that a lot throughout our trip... how much Peter would love this or that. Too bad he wasn't invited haha. Maybe next time. Maybe.

After the tour we went out to the water. Todd jumped waves and learned that those waves will basically blast the sunscreen right off of you. I got a massage and learned to not get in the water first unless you want a sea salt exfoliating massage.

It was beautiful and I loved that I could stay plenty warm without having to sit in the sun. Growing up to stay warm after swimming in the yard we would lay in the sun on the driveway and pray that there wouldn't be a breeze so we could actually feel the warmth of the sun. That Pocatello wind. It's not my favorite.

Lunch got pretty silly haha. No, we did not pay to keep the picture. Also... are sombreros supposed to be that big? Not like around haha I'm talking about the head hole... it was so deep!

The view was nice! And how about that stereotypical touristy dress I bought?? I really like it and I absolutely wore it when we fed Mexican food to the missionaries a couple weeks ago. Because why not??

Back to the beach for more relaxing, etc.

Although hanging out and relaxing at the resort was a fun experience we learned that it's just not our scene. We couldn't stay away from the local scene. Or at least what we thought the local scene was haha. On Friday night we hung out with the bell-hop and receptionist gals and they gave us detailed directions on which buses to take, which stops to get off at, etc. to find some of the best churros in the area.

We followed their instructions and we found ourselves at a big park full of food vendors, an international dance recital, clown performances, and so on. It was a blast. Seriously it beat picking up a couple overpriced churros at the JW Marriott by a long shot.

Todd found one of his favorite drinks...

we had fresh churros...

and this weird crunchy crepe thing...

and mango ice cream.

I was pretty excited to be eating Mexican carnival food for dinner. (:

p.s. the picante ice cream is interesting. It's also just mango ice cream covered in hot sauce... which I'd highly recommend haha.

The next morning we made our way back to Tacun for a delicious breakfast, to no surprise.

Aaaand we couldn't not stop at the grocery store's panaderia and pick up some snacks for the road. We were walking around the Chedraui and I could smell the bakery section before we could even see it. I made some comment to Todd about how grocery stores in Mexico smell really good. Haha we turned the corner and found out why.

Concha, corbata, abanico!

Flying back to Idaho went nearly perfect. Well Todd did get "randomly selected" for a security check right before boarding. Him and everyone else getting "randomly" checked were white males in khaki cargo-type shorts. Coincidence? Possibly.

There you have it. Our little adventure was a great one and I loved every minute of it. The next five years are going to be intense so it was nice to spend time together before our lives get potentially mucho crazy.

Here are the posts about the rest of our trip!

Our Mexico adventure: Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza, guys! It's one of the Seven Wonders of the World and we saw it! Do I even need to say that it didn't disappoint?? Didn't think so.

But before we get into that stuff let's just talk about the really really important part of our day. The part where we ate food. It's one of my most dedicated hobbies, really.

Breakfast on Chichen Itza day came straight outa this Panaderia (that's a Mexican Bakery, Lisa). ;)

I could eat (and crumble everywhere) concha everyday. Every. single. day. It's a textural thing. I'm the same way with macarons and those cheap wafer/frosting things. Yum.

Anyhow....

After picking up multiple delicious baked goods we hopped on the ADO and made the 3 hour ride to Chichen Itza.

Todd has always wanted to see Chichen Itza. I was excited about it but I didn't really know what it'd be like. I knew there was the big pyramid looking thing but I thought that was it. Maybe some smaller crumbly ruins. We had 4 hours to check things out and I was worried we'd be bored and looking for stuff to do to kill time.

To no surprise I was completely wrong. The pyramid looking thing that I was familiar with is "The Castle"... one of many, many ruins. I couldn't believe it! It was an entire huge city!

The front has been restored and kept up while the back shows the real weathering. We learned that they use the stones that have fallen off to do all of the restoring.

Lots of columns! Some were round while others were square and still had visible carvings.

There were also tons of vendors. Holy moly. I could not believe it. We got a few things and it was fun watching some of the vendors actually make what they were selling... buuuut it was also tiring being polite and saying no to every single one that asked you to stop and look. I did enjoy the things they'd say to catch our attention.

"Cheaper than Walmart!"

Lunch was muffins and smoothies. This was my only pina colada of the trip. And it was superb after walking around in the blazing heat.

So yeah besides el Castillo we saw their "basketball" arena...

Their enemy sacrificing station....

The holy cenote...

And the observatory. Just to name a few.

To my surprise we spent every last minute at the park before we headed out to wait for our 3-hour ADO back to Cancun.

We made it to our hotel eventually and even though it was in the hotel zone there was an awesome Mexican eatery a block away. Tacun. We went back to this place it was so good! And because it was in our price range haha.

We couldn't believe that it was 10pm when we finished dinner. The crazy things we do when we don't have our kids around!

Thus ends day four of our Mexico Adventure!
